BOWLING TOURNEY
DULL WEATHER AND STIFF. GREENS FIRST DAY'S PLAY _ The ninth annual tournament of the Wellington Bowling Centre was commenced on iho local greens yesterday morning. The weathor was not bright at the start, but it'.-was not adverse for good bowling. Tho sky was overcast, but up till midday the light was quite good, and the breeze—a light northerly—did not affect the running of the bowls in the least degree. During the luncheon adjournment it looked as though rain would spoil the day's play. The wind veered round to tho south, and it "smelt" of rain, but none came, and the afternoon's play proved quite enjoyable to all concerned. In the majority of instances tho heavy downpour of Monday had a stiffening effect upon tho greens. An exception to that condition was the Victoria green, which drains very quickly, and was yesterday playing quito fast. ■
A change was made in the conditions by two games of 25 heads each being substituted. for three games of 21 beads. _ With C 2 rinks entered, they were divided into fivo sections—four of ton rinks and a lifth of twelve rinks. Play took place on the Wellington, Newtown, Thorndon, Victoria, and Hataitai greons. The results of yesterday's play were as follow:— FIRST ROUND. A SECTION (WELLINGTON GREEN).
