MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, and dealt with the following cases:— - Hubert Leslie Scott, who apparently wished to make certain of a few extras for his Christmas dinner, on Monday last stole two bundles of rhubarb, ono cucumber, and three lettuces, tho property of On Lee. Yesterday morning he was fined 405., and ordered to refund 35., tho valuo of the goods, in default to undergo one month's imprisonment. A remand to January 3 was granted in the case of Frederick Emanuel Simmiss, who was charged with the theft of a motor-car, valued at £185, tho property of Stanley. Burgess. For insobriety one first offender was fined 10s., in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and Uiree others wero fined 20s. each, with the option of 48 hours' imprisonment. Alfred John Hearlc. for committing an assault on Henry Elite TJren, was fined £5, and was ordered to keep the peace for six months, and on ,i further charge of being found drunk ho was fined 205., with the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. > Alfred John Gttnsnn was sentenced lo three montlis' imprisonment for drunkenness, there being five previous charges against hirii in tha six months.. Similarly charged Michael Keogh was lined 205., in default seven days' imprisonment. For using obscene language in Courtenay Place, Robert Ramago Brown was sent to gaol for two months.
