DUNEDIN WATERSIDE WOKKERS. A Bton-work meeting of the Dunedin Waterside Workers Union was held on Thursday morning, says the Dunedin correspondent of the Ghristchurch "Press," for the purpose of discussing the question of amalgamation of waterside workers, railway employees, carters, and other transport workers, and also to discuss other matters pertaining to the handling of cargo. Tho stoppage of all work on the waterfront for' two hours is resented by tho shipowners, as en oversea vessel was forced to lie idle during that time. There seems to be a possibility that a prosecution will result as a consequence of holding a stop-work meeting, thus delaying the unloading of an overseas steamer. It is said that the action of the workers constitutes a breach of the award under which thj men work, The Inspector of Factories has telegraphed the particulars of the stop-work meeting to the' Labour Department. The president of tho New Zealand Federation of Waterside Workers stated that the stop-work meeting of tho union was not held at tho instance of tho federation, and that, as a matter of fact, ho did not know that such a meeting had been held until he read of it in the ncivspapcra.
