THE WELLINGTON NORTH SEAT
Sir,—Your paper has announced the flames of two probable candidates for the Wellington North seat in place of Mr. Herdman, who is being elevated to the Supremo Court Bench. The electors of the electorate must regret losing a man of Mr. Herdman's calibre, iind they must bo disappointed at tho jiaines that havo been submitted to itbem. Mr. Lnlco is a man of little politioal experience, and Mr. Hughes [has had leas. Mr. Luke tried as a Liberal to get a seat once, and then as an Independent he was rejected; and afterwards lie stood as a MasseyBian. Mr. Hughes has been;, a soldier, and, fighting for his country, nothing of the chameleon methjtfcls of politicians. His mind is a sheet *f:white paper as regard? politics, and
therefore lie would ho safe from prejudice) on any public question. Still that is not whnt tho electors want in a representative. I think, sir, tho National Government has raado a poor selection; and if it is not too lato the Government should bo asked to reconsider tho matter, for I fear that if Mr. Lulco's nomination is persisted in tho Reform supporters in Wellington North "will bo split, and tho Government's nomineo will be defeated.—l am, etc., ELECTOR.
