THE BOOKMAKER PLAGUE
Sir,—l notice by the report of the Supremo Court last'week that the belting case camo in for big comment. How is it that bookmakers can openly ply Tneir calling, open offices, havo totepiiones on, and issue betting cards? These are no workers; they neither toil nor Spin, and are a menaco to society. Why are they allowed to carry on an "illegal business" if we can call it such? They neither pay rates, insurances, ■ income tax —only carry their business in their pookets. What are the police thinking a [Tout? Many a fool in an office or place of trust owes his downfall, and'goes to gaol, for stealing to bet with these "pests." Timo is now to act.—l ami etc., SUFFERER. '
