The conscription, l issue is seriously embarrassing tho New South Wales State Ministry. Owing to a pledge not to support tho question, the Free Nationalists aro ready to resign. Mr. Holman has gone to Melbourne to endeavour to induce Mr. Hughes to reconsider tho,referendum decision, substituting an appeal to the country on the Conscription Bill. • Melbourne, November 11. The referendum question will take the form:—
"Are you in favour proposal Commonwealth Government for reinforcing Australian and Imperial Forces overseas?" [Part of the question is obviously dropped from the message.]
FRENCH SOLDIERS ON THE LAND
BILL TO PROVIDE FOB SETTLEMENT. Paris, November 9. A Bill will shortly be introduced in the Chamber of Deputies enabling pensioned and discharged soldiers and widows of the fallen to purchaso land. Tho Bill provides for loans rp to £100, at 2 per cent, for iwenty-fivo years, and a reduction by a quarter for each child born. The borrower will enjoy tho capital frco of interest.—Aus.-N.Z.
