THE SECOND DIVISION
BOLL BEING ISSUED. The roll of the Second Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve is being issued in four parts, of which two parts nre now ready. The names of the reserviele aro arranged alphabetically, and beside each name is a letter signifying the olas9 to which tho man concerned has been posted. Copies of tho roll are being sent to all po3t offices, police stations. Defence offices, and public libraries, and also to recruiting committees, and tho officers of the Second Division League, so that every reservist 6hould find it easy to examine tho roll and ascertain that his name is there, and. that ho has been properly assigned to his class. If any mistake has been made the reservist should notify the Government Statistician without delay in order that it may be corrected before the ballot for tho class is taken.
Tho roll of the Second Division has ben compiled from the personal schedules furnished under the National Registration Act, 1915. and tho Military Service Act, 1916, and on account of the time which has since elapsed it no doubt includes now names which should be omitted and particulars that have ceased to be accurate. Tho authorities require the co-operation of the reservists themselves in order that the roll may bo made as nearly perfect as possible. The classification does not appear to bo fully understood in all cases. Class A of the Second Division consists of married men who havo no children, or who fail to provide adequate maintenance for their children: Class B, of reservists who havo one child; Class C, of reservists'who have two children; Class D, of reservists who have threo children; Class E, of reservists who have four children; and Class F, of reservists who have more than four _ Tho children whom a reservist is entitled to count for tho purpose of his classification are the following: (1) His own legitimate children of any age; (2) his illegitimate children if ho lias married their mother before May 1, 1915; (3) children legally adopted by him before May 1, 1915; (4) his step-children if he married their mother before May 1, 1915; (5) a son who has died during the present war while a member of any of His Majesty's Forces. A Tesorvist is not entitled to count any child who has been legally adopted by any other person. It should bo understood that tho position of a Second Division reservist in any class is not fixed at a particular date, but alters with every change in the number of his children up to tho date vlion he is called for service. A reservist is required by tho Military Service Act to inform the Government Statistician of any change in the number of hie children, eithor a decrease or an increase.
