Once he was blown up by a.! shell, and once buried by a shell explo-j sion, but on each occasion he suffered no injury. Two other members of the family, Riflemnu G. Welch and Sergeant C. Welch. lira. .T. C. Gavin, of Karori, has re- i ceived advico that her fourth son, Cap-' tain N. J. 11. Gavin, M.C., 8.A.M.0., M.0., attached to tho 11th Royal Irish Hides, has died at the front as the re- j suit of an accident. Captain Gavin was; educated nt tho Terrace School and nfc' the Wanganui Collegiato School. Subsequently he was for one year a student of Otago University, completing Ins medical course at Edinburgh. Prior to; joining tho Army Captain Gavin was for some years engaged in work in mental hospitals in England. In August, 1015, lie joined the It.A.M.C, nnd in tho following year won tho Military Cross, to which in October last he was awarded a bar. The late Captain Gavin was a brother to tho Rev. G. H. Gavin, who is serving as a chaplain to tho New Zealand Forces.

The death occurred at the South AVairarapa. Hospital, Greytown, yesterday morning (writes our special correspondent) of Mr. AVilliam Graham, at the age of 46. Tho late Mr. Graham, who was Government Dairy Inspector in the AVairarapa, had been in ill-Health for some considerable time. lie was the third sou of the late Mr. F. L. Graham, of AVaikouaiti, Olngo, and was possessed of a reserved, kindly disposition, whieli won for him the liigh esteem of all v.ho had the pleasure of his acquaintance, and particularly his associates in the dairy industry. Ho leaves a widow, will have" Ijie sympathy of a large circle of friends in , her bereavement. The interment will take place at Caiteton on FrTuay afiernoon.
