Mr. O'Leary stated that the dejondant met his brother-in-law. who returned from tho front on Saturday, and he thought the occasion justified him taking some liquor, with the result that lie took more than was good for him. His brothor-iij-law returned to the vessel, and Greeu. wishing t.o oommuuicatc with him, attempted to get on (he vessel ana ~\vas prevented from doing so by the military police. There was some altercation, and tho language complained of was then used. Green was convicted and filled .t5 for tho obscene language, in default ono month's imprisonment, and the othor chargo was withdrawn. Henry Jertson, who was found helplessly drunk in Buckle • Street on Saturday, was veinanded for medical treatment. A returned soldier named Peter Peterson was convicted of drunkenness and fined 405., in default 14 days' imprisonment, aud also ordered to pay 17s. 6d. mediosl expenses, with the option of serving seven days in gaol, the terms to bo cumulative. For insobriety George W. Jackson was nued 205., in default 48 hours' imprison-; mont. Soven first ofienders were dealt with in tho .usual lenient manner. MAINTENANCE GASES. Maintenance cases were dealt with as follow:—John Shore and James Bbore, who are both oil activo .service, were each ordered to pay Jr. 4d. per week towards the support of a relative who is in a receiving home. Willjam White was ordered to contribute ss. per week towards tho support /of a son who is in a receiving home, arid Henry James Stanley was ordored to pay 2s. 6d. a week towards the support of a boy on a training farm. Albert - Jackson, whoso arrears totalled ,€l4, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, no warrant to be issued unless appliod for by the complainant. He was also ordered to pay 21s. costs. Herbert Moflatt, whose arrears for maintenance amounted to £9. was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment, warrant !o bo suspended until applied for by complainant, and Gustave Myers, who was in arrears to tho (unount of £2 18s.. was sentenced to throe months' imprisonment, no warrant to issue unless applied for by complainant. Joseph Le Yerne was ordered to contribute 108. per week towards the support of' his illegitimate child, ;,nd was also ordered to pay costs totalling £17 lis.
