COURT OF APPEAL
Tho Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), Mr. Justice Denniston, Jfr. Justice Cooper, and Sir. Justico Chapman yesterday heard argument upon an appeal by Booth and Co., Ltd., sawmiller3, against William Bowley, sawmill worker, of .Hihitahi. Tho action was heard in tho Supremo Court by Mr. Justice Hosting and a jury of twelve, from May 28 to May 30. Tho jnry found a verdict for lite plaintiff on tho issues for JaOO damages. All questions of law were reserved, and the defendant moved to set aside the verdict and enter judgment for the dei'ondant, or, in the alternative, to obtain a new trial. Jl_r. Justice Hosking heard tho defendant's motion, i.nd dismissed it. Appeal was made against this judgment. Messrs. T. Neave and Ward appeared for (ho appellants (defendants in tho Court below), and Mr, P. J. O'Regan for the respondent (plaintiff in tho Court below). The hearing was not concluded when tho Court adjourned. The Court of Appeal (including, Mr. .Tustioe also granted leave to tile two affidavits in tho application of the Law Society to strike olf tho rolls of barristers and solicitors, or suspend from prnetiee, William Gascnyen Beard, on Hie grounds that Beard had' been guilty of professional uiiscondwt in his dealings with a Maori nanml Rangi Kerehoma.
The case was fixed for hearing on Thursday, October 25.
