CRICKET ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING.. The annual meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association was held last evening iu the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Jt. F. Luckie presided; and thoro was a full attendance of delegates. Tho annual report (already published) was'presented for consideration. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, particularly commented on the exceedingly good Hnahcial position of tho association, and said that the management'committee deserved every credit for keeping down tho expenditure and keeping up the income, and so long as *uch management continued the association need not fear,hard times. Mr. 0. M'Kenzie said tho principal credit for the sound financial position of the association was. due to the untiring efforts of Mr. C. G. Wilson and of Mr. V. B. Willis. The report and balance-sheet wero adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron,. His Excellency the Gov-ernor-General; president, Sir Francis Bell, K.C;; vice-presidents, Hon. A. L. It was decided not to appoint delegates to the New Zealand Cricket Council because of the previous delegates not being available and the council not being active owing to the war. The power to nominate delegates wis delegated the management committee. Management Committee: Messrs. C. G. Wilson, M. .1. Crnmbie, A. A. George, R. }[. Ward, D. M'Kenzic, E. M. Beechey, A. H. M'Kellar, and A. A. Bennett; lion. secretary and treasurer, Mr. V. R. Willis; hon. auditor, Mr. C. E. Stevens. Tho Returned Soldiers' Cricket Club wrote asking to be affiliated, and itating that the club would put a senior team in tho field. The application was planted. The New Zealand Army Ordnanco Cricket Club was granted affiliation subject to formal application being made. This club will play a junior team. On behalf uf tho Petone Club, Mr. D. M'Konzio moved that it be a .••ecowniendation to the uicoming committee to resume representative matches. The speaker pointed oat chat the Rugby Union had started the ball rolling, and there -was now no question of interfering, vnth recruiting. The motion was carried unanimously. Mn C. G. Wilson (chairman of the management committee) stated that the Hugby Union had approached the committee for assistance to raiso funds in connection with Athletic Park, and the committee had agreed to set aside the opening match and the following ono for this purpose. He also referred to tho negotiations now proceeding with the City Reserves Committee with respect to the Basin Deserve,'and stated that the Reserve Committee had at all times met the association in the best possible way, while the association had proved a good tenant. He further stated that the association had been committed to providing a stall for tho Soldiers' Fund, and he urged everyone present to help to make the stall a ; representative and a profitable one. He said they were standing behind the best woman in New Zealand, indeed, they would have to go further to find a ytter than the Mayoress, Mrs. Luke. A snecial vole of thanks was pa.-scd to Mr. G. F. Gibb. the retiring secretary, who had rendered the association very great service. Very flattering references were made to
Sir. C. G. Wilson, who wis' specially' thanked for his services as chairman of the management committee. The. chairman feelingly referred to the loss sustained by cricketing interests through the war, and a motion of condolence was pa6sed in silence.
