QUESTION OF ECONOMICAL HANDLING.

On the subject of the advisableness of handling coal at the tramways and lighting power houses with mechanical appliances, as previously suggested by Councillor J O. Shorland, the City Engineer (Mr. "IT. tl. The generating units would be considerably larger than those at prosent in use, and very considerable saving could be effected. The principal waste in connection with the coal at present is in the space required to store "seiu stocks and the cost of cartage, from the various wharves.
