FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The Mayor (Mr. ,T. P. Luke), Councillors W. 11. P. Barber, G. Frost, J. Godber, W. H. Bennett. A. It. Atkinson, L: M'Kenzie, 11. I\. Luckic, J. O. Shorland, B. A. Wright, W. .T. Thompson, C. B. Norwood, J. Castle, and J. 15. Fitzgerald were present at the meeting of the City Council held last evening. Finance and Property. The following recommendations ol tho Finance and Property Committee were agreed to:— That application bo wade for the unconditional exemption of the eastern side of Tory Street, between Courtenay Place and Wakefield Street, from the provisions. of Section 117 of the Public Works Act. 1908, as recommended.
That the request'of the Rosenenth and Oriental Bay Municipal Electors' Association foi the erection of a bubble fountain at the War Memorial in front •of the lioseneath Church and School gates be deferred for the present. That the request of the Maranui Methodist Church Trustees for permission to lead storm-water from a portion of the_ roof of their building on Onepu luOad into an adjacent sewer, bo refused.
That a suggestion that the Grand Road spring be railed-in, in order to prevent horses from being watered there, be not entertained iu view of the danger from accidents likely to be caused, by the obstruction on the roadway.
That the invitation of tho Australian Town-Planning Association to send delegates to the Town-Planning Conference to be held in Adelaide from October 17 to 24, be not accepted. That t'hey have granted the free use of the Concert Chamber to the Spinsters' Club for an entertainment on October 31, to raise money for the Soldiers' Christmas Gift Fund, and also to Miss Carwell Cooke on the afternoon of> November 10, for & children's fancy dress ball in aid of the Red Cross Fund. By-laws. On the recommendation of t'he By-laws Committee, it was decided:— "That the resolution passed at the laafc meeting of the council authorising the issue of a permit to a youth. nineteen and a' half years, to drive* a taxicab, be rescinded, as if; is reported that t'he person concerned refused to give certain information to the police when requested by them. ♦ "That tho council permit an outside ■wall of now premises in Homo Street to 1)0 orected in wood instead of in brick as Tecommonded by tho city engineer, iprovided the owners givo an undertaking to the city solicitor's satisfaction that the 17 feet of vacant land at tho side of the dwelling will not be built upon. That application be made for the unconditional exemption of TCpuni .Street from tho provisions of Section 117 of the Public "Works Act, as recommended by the city engineer. Leaseholds and Legislation. Tho' Leaseholds and Legislation Committed recommendations adopted by the council were as follow:— That tho rents of two corporation shops in Willis Street bo increased by <£1 and 17e. Gd. per week respectively, as recommended by the city present rentals are eC4 and -s. 6d. rcspctivcly. '
