V.C. AT TWENTY YEARS OF AGE. Corporal Leslie Wilton Andrew, who has been awarded tho Victoria Crops for conspicuous bravery on the field of action, was only twenty years of ago last March. Ho was born at Ashhurst, and when his father was promoted to Wanganui, ns headmaster of tho Wanganui East School, the family becamo identified with that town. After serving some little time in the legal office of Mr. C. E. MaeJcay, of Wanganui, young Andrew entered the Railway service, and his keenness in volunteering almost immediately earned him sergeant's stripes in tKo No. 7 Company of Railway Engineers. He entered the General Manager s office in December, 1911. In tho following year be obtained leave to enlist, and ho left as a cornoral_of the Tenth Xtomforenment. Beforo leaving he ftuanfieu foT a commission, but was not successful in gaining one. Corporal Andrew is described ns a particularly bright young man, with a natural aptitude for soldiering, and very keen "on his job." The fact that no was only eighteen years of age when no enlisted, and qualified by examination for a commission, indicates tho capacity of the latest New Zealander to win the highest order for bravery.
