MINISTER'S REPLY TO WAIRAEAPA' LEAGUE. (B.v Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Masterton, September 9. In answer to telegrams insisting thaffc better provision 'be made for dependants of married men before tho first ballot is taken, tie Minister of Defence lias telegraphed as follows to the secretaries of the Masterton and Carterton branches of tho Second Division League:—'"Your telegram received. Amendment to Pensions Act and question of allowance 1 to soldiers' dependants is now being considered, and will be laid before Parliament as soon as they have been approved by the Government. The question of a pre-ballot examination has been most carefully considered, but I regret to sity it has been found to be quite impracticable. It lias, therefore, been decided that a ballot shall take place three months before the Second Division reservists are required to proceed to camp in order to give ample timo for reservists to arrange their affairs. You understand, of course, they will also "have the right of appeal."
