The best scores to date in the Wellington South Olub's annual handicap tourney, in which ton rounds have been disposed of, ;aro as follow:—G. P. Anderson, 7 wins, 1 draw, no losses; B. J. Thompson, 8 ■wins, 2 losses; Wclton, 7—2; Purohas. 6-4; Olark, SJ-4J; Eno, sJ—4i; Douglas, 4-4; Harper, 3—2; and Berry, 4-3. As a result of the first month's play in the -Wellington Ohess Olub'e annual "Potherick" tourney (handicap), Messrs. Barnes, Olutten, E. S. Taylor, and Purchaa are unbeaten. Messrs. Hughes, S. Maekay, and A. Gyles are -in close pursuit. No fewer than fourteen ladder challenges have been issued since Easter, the increased activity in tills form of competition being very gratifying. The challenger has been successful in gainlnc promotion in six instances, and .the defender has succeeded in retaining his runs on three occasions. The remaining fivo oontcsta are incompiote. Of these the- greatest interest attaches to the bout for rung 2; the- first game -was -won by W. Mackay (challenger), the second by W. E. Mason (defender). Tho third and fourth games were drawn, and the fifth stands adjourned with equal, forces; Tthc mateh-play of the past six weeks has furnished excellent practice, and tho club's "reps." should bo in good form for the tojegraphio match against the powerful Otago Olub. This contest, which is being looked forward to with much interest in both centres will probably be commenced at 6- p.m. next Saturday. Tho best tallies to date in the annual handicap tourney of tho Working Men's Club are as follow:—Barnes, 6-0; Vaulknor, 6—2: Douglas, s—l; Eton, 4—l; Arden. 4—3: L&Tking, 4—3; Hennessey, 3—2; and Greig, 3—3. Tho best performance to dato in tho club's annual draughts tourney (scaled: handicap) has been put up by the club champion, 0. Erickson, whoso score fs 33 wins, 2 drams, 1 loes (to Connor). . Other good scores are: Connor, 31—5; Costcllo, 25—3; M'Pherson, 19-5; Hanson. 22-6; Larking, 20-12; and Oolvfllo, 22-14.
