INCIDENT IN THE FRENCH CHAMBER
FIRM STAND BY M. EIBpT. Paris, Augnst 3. ' M. Ribot (Prime Minister), replying to M. Renaudel's request to nllow tlio Socialists to go to Stockholm, said-.—"We: wish for an honourable peace, not a, peace which will make us slaves. Peace can be only be obtained by Victory; it is not obtainable through conferences. We do not think the Socialist Conference at Stockholm can giTe the peace desired." M. Mistrae (Socialist); "We will go in spite of you." (Uproar, and shouts' of disapproval). M. Ribot then appealed to the Chamber for unity, and the Government wm accorded a vote of confidence by a large majority.—Atre.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ,
