CONFERENCE FUTILE AT THIS STAGE

London, August 3. The executive of the Labour! Party met at the House of Commons, 'and received the report of Mr. Arthur Henderson, Sir. Ramsay Mac&nald, and Mr. G* J. Wardle on the meeting held in' Paris. The General Federation .of 'Trade Unions has reaffirmed its decision not to attend .a conference at which they will meet delegates from enemy countries until France and Belgium have been, evacuated, and reparation promised. Mr. Samuel Gonipers (President of tile American Federation of Labour) cabled that American Labour delegates -trill not attend, as the federation considers that such a conference is inopportune, and cannot be productive of good. Mr. W. A. Appleton (Secretary of the British Federation of Trades Unions) replied that the British Federation of Trades Unions concurred with, the American view, ond considered that conferences would be futile until the freedom of democracy was secured.—Ans.-N.Z.
