CULLODEN DAY
Sir,—From Scottish papers leccntly to hand;' particulars are available of the usual celebrations in connection with tne anniversary of the Battle of Culloden, whic hwas fought on April 16, 1715—171 years ago. lor iho past twenty years it has been tlio custom. 10 annually decorate the memorial cairn on the battlefield with floral wreaths in memory or: those -who fought on the losing side on that day. As time rolls on patriotic interest increases in regard to the memorable Battle of Culloden, and the socne of that gallant light of kilted warriors, is reverently.visited each year by thousands. As showing how: widespread is the feelings of admiration for those who fought and fell for the Stuart eiuse—, the .last great outburst of chivalry—lt' may ho mentioned that tributes, have been sent from all over die world, offerings from many parts of England and Scotland, from Canada, New Zealand, j anil the United States of America. This year three wreaths were sent from New Zealand bearing the following inscriptions, one "In memory of Prince Charles Edward and his devoted followers," from Iho Jacobite League in New Zealand. Another wreath, "In memory of the bravo and true Highlanders'who fell on that fatal day," froi> Neil Mackenzie Forbes, Falmerston Nprlh. A tnird wreath, "In memory of the heroes of Culloden, from a far-away member ot'-the Clan M'Donell, Taihape, N.Z.".—I am, letc, C C. BAGNELL. Melford Road, Paimerslon North.
