ONSLOW BOROUGH AFFAIRS
MEETING OF THE COUNCII* A meeting of tho Onßlow Borough Council was held on Saturday evening, tho Mayor (Mr. J. M. Dalo) presiding. The councillors present were: K. A. Budd. W. Applcton, E. Hobbs. C. Bowden. P. P. Hodgson, E. Q. Tucker, JI. B. Topp, and J. C. Gardner. After somo disoussion it was decided that instead of the half-pay voted to the late borough foreman for a neriod of six weeks, the nay he for tho full amount, and that the additional amount. £10 165.. bo passed for payment. It was generally agreed that the late foreman (H. Kennedy) had been a conscientious sorvant of tlw borough, and took an unusually keen interest in conserving tho interests of tie borough. Permission was granted Mr. W. Watts to plant ngaios on the street frontages of his property at the corner of Tui and Motneka Street. Councillor W. Appleton reported- the results of the interview which a, deputation from the council had with the telegraph engineer in resnect to the erection of a slot telephone at Ngaio. Thore were good prospects of the council's request being granted, and the Town Clerk was instructed to make formal application for the slot telephone. On the motion of Councillor Tucker it was .decided to call tenders for the right tri craze sheep on tho catchment area in the borough, and that the Finance Committee draw un the terras of lease.
