NEW BILLS THIS SESSION
CONCERNING ELLINGTON CITY. The Wellington City Council proposes to submit thrco new Bills to Parliament during the coining session. The Bills wero set before, the council last evening with the following covering explanations:—
The Wellington City Empowering Bill, 1917.-£ This Bill, should it become law, will confer on the council power to control the future subdivision of land in tho City and will givo the council authority to maintain private streets and private ways, and to light private ways. The Day's Bay Sanitation and Water Supply Bill, 1917.—This Bill proposes to include within the jurisdiction of the Wellington City Council, for water supply, drainage, sanitation and other purposes, part of tho Hutt County situate at Day's Bay; and will empower the Wellington City Council to provide such services in and for the benefit of such area.
The Wellington City Reserve and Renewal Funds Bill. 1917.—This Bill will empower the council to provide renewal funds for its trading undertakings, and a reserve fund and renewal fund in connection with its tramway system. Councillors said the Einoowprinp- Bill would be ono of the best possible things for tho City. It would bo an excellent aid to'.town-plannimr. Tho Mayor complimented tho executive officers and the Legislation Committeo on tho Bill, which, Ko said, was excellently drafted.
Councillor Atkinson said tho Bill had been very well drafted for tho simple reason that the matter had been handed over to the City Solicitor. The importance of both the other Bills wn= stressed by tho Mayor. The Bills were and Councillor E, A. Wright was asked to take charge of them in Parliament.
