POLITICAL HITCH IN CANADA

COALITION NEGOTIATIONS FAIL SIR WILFRID LAURIER'S "DIGNITY" Ottawa, June 7. Sir Robert Borden (L'rinic Minister of Canada) announced in Parliament that the- negotiations with Sir Wilfrid Laurier to form a Coalition Cabinet had failed. He read correspondence in which Sir AVilfrid Laurier explained that ho was unable to agreo to tho proposals which comprised tho formation of a Coalition Cabinet, tho passage of tho Conscription Bill, and a subsequent appeal to the tountry for its sanction. Members did not comment, but cheered Sir Robert Borden. There is likely to be a split amongst the Liberals, a large section of whom are favourable to conscription. The failure of tho negotiations was duo to the fact that Sir Wilfrid Laurier was unable to co-operate because conscription had been announced before the coalition proposals were made. Deop disappointment is expressed at the failure of tho coalition proposal. The Canadian Government proposes to introduce the Conscription Bill immediately. —Aus.-N-Z. Cable Assn.
