ITALIANS MAINTAIN THEIR POSITIONS
VIOLENT ALL-DAY ATTACKS REPULSED The High Commissioner reports:— London, June 7, 5.50 p.m. An Italian official report states:—"Violent enemy attacks were made from a hill to the south of Vcrsic and a hill .eastward of Jamiano. Our positions. were strenuously defended. The engagement lasted nearly the whole day, with varying fortune until the evening, when the enemy was completely repulsed. Another attack from Flondar towards Sablici waa promptly stopped by our fire before it developed." (Eec. June 8, 10.30 p.m.) London, June 7. ■ An Italian official report states: "Wo repulsed a heavy attack in the Bacher Valley. The ■enemy, reinforced, delivered violent attacks in the Carso from Hill 217, southward of Versic, to Hill 31, east of Jamiano. An Austrian official report states: "The enemy's massed attacks on the Jamiano front broke down with heavy losses. We have taken 27,000 prisoners since Mav 12." THE WHITE PLAGUE RAVAGING VIENNA. (Eec. June 8, 5.5 p.m.) Geneva, June 7. A Vienna newspaper states that tuberculosis has become the scourge of tho city. One death in every three is attributed to' the disease.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
