DISCUSSED BY METHODIST CONFERENCE

Melbourne, May 26.

At the Australasian Methodist Conference, Dr. Fitchett moved: "That it is the duty of the Christian Church to. discover and assess the moral causes of the war for the guidance of the Methodist Church." This was followed by a series of resolutions recording the judgment of the conference thereon. These resolutions declare that the overwhelming proof of-guilt Tests on Germany and Austria; that fie fight is one of honour against dishonour, of truth' against falsehood, of love against hate, of tho ethics of Christianity against the ethics of paganism," that it is essentially a spiritual war, which will be decided by spiritual forces, and~that right under the reign of the God of must prevail against unrighteousness; -that the result of the war will he that the political ideals, aud methods of all nations will be lifted to a higher level, and the' laws of God will have new authority in national ..affairs.

The conference decided to change the title of "local preacher" to "lay preachor."—Press Assu.
