MONET MARKET. The Bank of England discount rate was on January 2, 1914, reduced from 5 to 4j per cent.,-on January 22 it was reduced to 4 per cent., and-on January 23 3 per cent. On July 30 the rate was raised to 4 per cent., and on July 31 it was ralseu to 5 per cent., and on August 1 It was iurther advanced to 10 per cent. On August 6 the rato was'reduced to 6 per cent., on AugUßt 7 it was further reduced to 5 per cent., on July 13. 1916, it was raisod to 6 per cent., on January 12, 1917, it was reduced to 5J per cent., and on April 5 it was further reduced to 5 per cent. OPEN MARKET RATES. The open market discount rate for tares months' bills is 45 per cent., as compared with 41 per cent, last week, and 4 9-16 per cent, last year. Short loans are quoted at 4J- per cent., as against 4 3-8 per cent, last week (ind 4 per cent, last year. THE NEW LOAN. The new loan closes on April 17. Tho issue will consist of bearer' debentures of £10 upwards, convertible into registered stock before the end of June.
