NATIONALISING THE COAL MINES
BRITISH SCHEME MATURED. (Rco. February 15, 5.45 p.m.) London, February 14. , The Government scheme for taking control of the coal mines has matured. It will be similar to that adopted in connection with the railways, the colliery owners being guaranteed! the prewar dividend rate. In addition to controlling, production, and distribution, the Government will attempt to regulate prices, and onsxire the most economical handling. Mr. Guy Calthorp, Manager of the London and NorthWestern Railway Company, has been appointed State Controller of Coal Mines.—Aus.-N.Z.,Cable Assn. (Rec. February 15, 11.40 p.m.) London, February 14. The Press Bureau states: "The Board of Trade will assume possession of all coal mines for the duration of the war. Advisory committees, representing the employers, will assist the controller of the new Department.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter.
