SWIMMING

AMOKURA SPORTS,

At the Thorndon Baths yesterday afternoon tho boys of the N.2.T.5. Amokura held their annual swimming sports, and the affair proved a most enjoyable outing for the boys, their officers, and the visitors. During the afternoon His Worship the Mayor and Mrs. Luke, Mayoress, visited tho baths and evinced the keenest interest in the boys' sports. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from tho Hon. W. H. Hemes, ActingMinister of Marine, Mr. Geo. Allport, secretary Marine Department, and Mr. Jas. Moore, Missioner to Seamen. Thanks to. the generosity of local enthusiasts, the lads and their friends were asked to "dispose" of a liberal supply of refreshments, and after the swim in the rather keen water, the boys heartily enjoyed this part of the programme. The arrangements were in tho hands of the Amokura's Sports Fund Committee, who wish to thank the donors to their fund and prize-list, and last, but by no means least, the ladies .who attended to tho work of preparing and dispensing afternoon tea.
