HUTT AFFAIRS
BOBOUGH COUNCIL MEETING.The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening, Mr. H. Baldwin (Mayor) presiding, and there were also present Councillors Ball,- Hobbs, Carver, Hodgins, Meldrnm, Clendon, Brasell, M'Dougall, and Heron. Mr. E. P. Bunny, borough solicitor, wroto expressing the opinion that the license fee payable in respect of motor delivery vans was properly chargeable. Tt was decided to try a test caso In Court.
A deputation from tho Hutt District High School waited on the council with a request that the council would asphalt a portion of the school ground, the matter of charges being left with the school. The matter was left in tho hands of Nn 1 committee for attention.
The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) was appointed delegate to the conference to he "pldof tlipboromrh councils in Wellington, and whose object is to consider the necessity for urging upon tho Government tho necessity for inauguratinsr a hydro-electric power supply for the Wellington district.
It was decided to thank Mr. A. Pryde for his readiness to dedicate the necessary portion of land npcessary for the widening of Piverbank Street. The borough inspector's report stated that on .Tannery 20, 22, and 2-i the time of 32 motor vehicles exceeding the sne.edlimit was taken. Inquiries are being made ns to the names of the drvers. Proceedinrs ?re to" be taken in tho Magistrate's Court.
