February 12, 9.45 p.m.) A ■wireless Italian semi-official message states:—"The Austrians recently repeatedly attacked in an endeavour to eject tho Italians from their advanced positions east of Gorizia. An intense bombardment was followed by infantry advances. Dosperate fighting followed. Some positions were captured, but our counter-attacks recovered all the lost ground excepting for a few advanced trench elements. Hundreds of Austrian dead wero left on the field."—• Aus.-N.Z. Tho "Daily Chronicle's"^ correspondent states that tho Gorizia front-lino trench system on both sidos has been elaborately developed during the recent quiet months, sometimes within half a dozen yards of each other. In places the parapets are. separated only by an impassable cocoon of entanglements, while the hills everywhere are covered with a bewildering complication of galleries, tunnels, and terraces. —Aus.-N.Z.
