Epuhi Hamlet, appealed on the.ground that lie ivould have/to close down his business. It would be; impossible to dispose of the stock and mako necessary arrangements in fourteen daysrr ' The appellant stated that lie was .42 years of age,' He did not wish to avoid service, but' his efforts, to disnose of' bis business had not Men successful. ,He had a partner, who for physical reasons, could not handle the whole -business. ; Tho appeal was disallowed, the military representative (Captain Walker) undertaking that appellant would be allowed a month to arrange his business affairs ill the event of his being passed as fit by the Medical Board. Appeal Adjourned. Albert John Stephen Eobinson, butcher, Paraparaumu, stated that he had )iist leased a, business for two years and could not get labour. He had'married on May 19. 1915, and had one child. Appellant stated that he was the only butcher in tho neighbourhood. He could not Secure assistance owing to tho shortage of labour. Ho had taken oyer the .business two months previously and had tried ever since to find lahour.

A Disoharged Man, Charles William Honish, dairy-farm employee, had enlisted and had been discharged medically unlit prior to being picked up in the ballot. His father who'.supplied milk to Trentham .CampJ applied for the exemption of Honish to tho present, on the ground that other labour was not available Appellant produced his discharge, snowing he had been in camp-for three months, and had then been discharged as medically unfit. He said his father managed a dairy farm, with 80 cows in milk. Appellant was one of four hands employed on the ■ place. They milked by band, and there was a scarcity of milkers. Ihe milk went to Trentham Camp. Ho was still suffering from rheumatics, which had caused his discharge. Tho appeal was adjourned sine die appellant to have suspension provided he remained in bis present employment, Appeal Withdrawn. John Cornelius Leary, train examiner New Zealand Baijways, appealed on the ground of occupation and undue hardship. He stated that three of his brothers had gone to the front, one having fallen at Gallipoli, and another brother had been twice rejected. Appellant was tho eldest'son, and had to contribute to the support of his parents and a married sister. Appellant, who did not appear had communicated bis intention of withdrawing his appeal, which was formally disallowed. Sitting in Masterton. Tho Wellington Military. Service Board will sit in Masterfron to-day and to-morrow and in Palmerston on Thursday. A conference of the four Military Service Boards and tho military representatives will be held! in Wellington on Friday next for the purpose of discussing matters that have arisen in the course of proceedings and securing -uniformity of practice. otagolppeals By Telegraph—Press Association, Dunedin, December 9, The Military Service Board sat at Palmerston South to-day, when eleven appeals were heard. William A. Wright and Alick Wright, farmers, Palmerston, appealed on grounds that their enlistment was contrary to publio interest, and would cause undue hardship. William said he had a wife and four children depending on him, and they would be uhprovidod for if he were • called -up The appeal was allowed, and appellant was transferred to tho Second Division. Alick Wright bad no brother belonging to the First Division, and his appeal was allowed. Neil Bannatyno, farm assistant, appealed on tho ground that ho was nndor military ago. The appeal Was allowed" and counsel informed the board that his client would enli6t as soon as ho reached military age. The appeal of Alexander Bannatyno, farm manager, Waikouaiti, was allowed on the ground that he had no brother in the first division. Adam Bell, farmer, Peter William Bell, dairy-farmer, and Robert Bell, shepherd appealed on the ground that they were not reservists. Evidence tendered showed that all tho appellants were over ago, and the appeals were allowed. For a similar reason the appeals of Samuel Henry Allnock and John Thomas Allcock, farmers, Waikouaiti, were also allowed. George Cunvmings and Charles Cnmmings, farmers, appealed on the ground of undue hardship, and that their enlistment was against th< public interest. Evidence showed that appellants were single men, and worked two farms, and had incurred financial obligations. The Chairman said the financial questions would bo discussed at a conference of boards to be held in Wellington. The board were of opinion, however, thai one of the men should go. Both appeals would bo adjourned in order that appellants might bo medically examined.
