Australian-New .Zealand Cable- Association. London, November 12. Mr. W. F. Massey (Prime Minister of New Zealand) will receive tho Freedom of the City of York on November 15, the City of Edinburgh on November 20, and an honorary degree from Cambridge University on November 18. Mr. Massey has forwarded a cable message to the' Secretary of the Executive giving the following extract from the "Yorkshire Herald":—"Tho honour to be conferred by the City of York on Mr. W. F. Massey is more than a personal tribute to an eloquent, broadminded, and far-seeing/Imperial man; it is an act of acknowledgment of tho great services which have been and are being rendered by_ the gallant soldiers of New Zealand in the common cause for which Great Britain and her Allies aro fighting as they fought never before." Mr. Massey met with a warm reception ait tho Guildhall last week on tho occasion of the conferring upon him of the Freedom of the City of London. ' ,

RETURNED SOLDIERS * ' WONDERFUL CURES AT ROTORUA. The Minister for Public Health (the Hon. G. W. Russell) has recently returned from Rotorua, where he visited .the institution established there for the treatment of sick and wounded soldiers. Mr. Russell speaks in glowing terms of the excellent work being done for soldiers at Rotorua. x On the occasion on which Mr. Russell visited the sanatorium, he spoke to a man .lying in a cot on the verandah. Making the usual inquiry as to how ho was getting on, the Minister was Tather surprised to get tho reply, "Oh, I'm fed up." It appeared that this man's grievance was that he wanted to got up and dress, and that he could not get his clothes. But when this man arrived at Rotorua for treatment he was blind, he had no power of speech, and he was paralysed in both legs. He is now able to see and speak as well as ever, and he has so far recovered the use of his limbs and his strength that ho wants to get up and dress himself. He expects in a few days to be out of bed, moving about again. This is one instance of a remarkable cure effected at Rotorua, and there have been others.

A scheme is now afoot to provide more facilities for curative treatment of a character not yet used. Dr. Marshall Macdonald, a well-known Dunedin practitioner, returned recently from active service. While in France he' was in charge of an institution specially devoted to mechano-thorapy. The Minister and tlie-Jnspector-Oeneral of Hospitals (Dr. Valintine) heard of his work, and it was decided to make uso, if possible, of any advice or information that Dr. Macdonald could give. As a preliminary, Dr. Macdonald has visited Rotorua in order to see what is. now beiug done lit the institutions there. Dr. Macdonald's report and recommendations will shortly bo received by the Department.
