WAR PENSIONS
AN INTERESTING SUMMARY. . Sitting in AYellington last .week the War Pensions Board dealt with .163 casos—l'll now chums and 52 renewals. Of tho now claims 4!) wore from soldiers, and wero dealt with as follow: — Nino were granted pensions, 33 wore granted allowances, livo wero declined, and two wero adjourned. Of tho remaining 62 claims, which wore from depoudants, 41 wero granted pensions and eight wore givon allowances; ten wore declined, and.thrco adjourned. Of the 52 applications for renewal, 34wero extended for a furthor period (15 being put on a final payuiont); in 12 cases it was decided that tho payment should ccaso forthwith; and two wero adjourned for further information. Throe oases woro converted to permanent pensions. In tho caso of an application for an increase, it was decided to mako no
change. Tho following is the summary of war pensions to' dato: — Soldiers.—7s4 pensions, 2107 allowances, 278 declined, 17 adjourned, 33 iu hand; total, 3192. Dependants.—lo2B 108 allowances, 102 declined, 8 adjourned; gross total, 4485 claims dealt with. From tho financial point of view the position is as under: — • Soldiers.—7s4 ponsions, of tho annual value of £40,955, an avorago of £54 per pension. Wiros: 221 pensions (with 342 ohildren), £21,527 per annum, an average of £97 per annum; other dopendants 807, annual value £23,923, average £29: Total, 1782 pensions, annual value £86,435. In addition there are 2215 allowances being paid at tho annual rate of £108,406. This brings the total number of people drawing pensions up to 3997, and the annual value is £194,841—an average pension of £48.
