WELLINGTON'S GENEROSITY

* A COUNTRY. MAN'S PROTEST. (To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice Wellington is onco more to the fore in showing , its patriotism by asking outsiders to find the goods. When Wellington brought off its great Queen Carnival, I suppose half the sum collected came from the country, and dozens of people from the city carefully canvassed the country districts, some • of "them presumably hiring motors out of the funds for the purpose. When Wairarapa raised its , patriotic funds Wellington was .not asked'to contribute sixpence, and tho country is just about sick of Wellington and its patriotism. If Wellington wants to entertain soldiers at Christmas let the whole population give an average of 3d., and they will have a sum of £875. I notice in theMayor.'s appeal to the country people that' cold storage will be supplied free." This is not tho only kind of "coolness" supplied free by Wellington. . The committee' will find that tho ■ supply of poultry,, especially geese, is not so plentiful as it used to bo in tho country'districts. Wairarapa is doing its own share towards Christmas- good cheer for soldiers, and not asking Wellington for any help.—l am, ■ BUMPKIN.
