BILLIE TRENTHAM"
- FLEECE REALISES £40 19S. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) has received a. letter from Lieut.'-Colonel Potter, Oamp Commandant at Trentham, bearing the sad " news of the death of "Billy Trentham," a pot sheep who. has enjoyed the freedom of the camp for over a year past, and whose loss is deeply deplored' by all who had the pleasure of "Billy's" acquaintance. "Billy," it seems, was' presented to one of the earlier Iteinforoements by a local settler as a mascot. For some months ho was allowed a free'ran in the camp, and was a favourite amongst the successive dlrafts of men that passed through Trentham camp, becoming so tame as to feed' out of the hand. "Billy's" fleece was a beauty. It was sold at auotion by tib'e WellingtonWool Brokers' Association for'patriotic purposes, arid-realised the substantial amount; of £40 195., which has been forwarded to'the Mayor for tho Wounded Soldiers' Fund.
