ONSLOW BOROUGH

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. ' Tho fortnightly meeting of t'ho Onslow Borough Council was held last evening, tho Mayor (Mr. C. C. Crump) presiding. Thore.wera alflo present: Councillors W. Appleton,. A. E. Budd, J. M. Dale, J. C. Gardner, A. W. Palmer, L. H. Browne, H. Brenton Rule, J. G. Smith and C. Bowdcn. It was decided in connection with a' letter from Messrs. Brandon, Hislop, and Brandon, asking for compensation for land, Main Road, Ngaio, .proposed to bo dedicated oh sulidivition by Mr. C. Alpin, that a reply bo sent.that the council cannot entertain, a claim for compensation. On tlio motion of Councillor Budd, seconded by Councillor L. A. Browne, it was resolved that tho City Council and Railway Department be written to drawing their attention to the bad stato of the approaches to .Lambton and Thorndon Stations, and especially of tlio crossings at Davis and Bunny Streets during wot weather, and urging that some improvement be effected so that travellers by train may reach tho city in comfort. . It was also resolved, on the motion of Councillor J. G. Smith, -seconded by Councillor Appleton, "That this council appoint a special committee to approach tho Wellington Cjty Tramway authorities with a view to arranging for improved tramway facilities from Thorndon station, and the mattor was referred, to a committee to deal with. In speaking to his motion Councillor Smith complained that the Tramway Department did nob cater adequately for tlio {suburban passengers; and urged that jf a concession wero granted in the. shape of a penny section from Thorndon station to Kelburn Avenue or the post office, it would result in an incrcn.lo of tram traffic. He also suggested the running of special trams to catch the outgoing suburban trains leaving the city at the close of business.
