NON-COMS. TRAINING
PERIOD EXTENDED BY ONE MONTH. The Minister of Defence stated last night that in future the period of preliminary training to be given to probationary non-commissionedl officers will be-extended to three months. TJp till now the period of training has beontwo months, at the end of which time the recruits of the draft to which the non-coms, are posted come into camp, and then the: non-coms, -have to begin imparting the instruction they have received. It is admitted that the period of two months has been found to be a little short, and the staff have recommended the longer period. The intention is that tne non-coms, shall be given a month of training in duties'pertaining, largely to the internal economy of the camp, a branch- of work ! in which it is considered that they do not at present receive sufficient instruction, ana yot.a branoh of work.whioh is essential to efficiency. In preparation for this change... certain adjustments among the non-commißßioned officers now. in training will probably be made.
