As a sequel to the death of a young woman at the Wanganni Hospital, Richard Alriofc Pollard, formerly recruiting officer for tho Defence Forces at.Hawera, was charged at the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr. Justice Edwards, with the illegal use of an instrument with intent, to procure a miscarriage. Tho prosecution relied on deceased's deposition, which stated that an operation "was performed by a strange man in a bedroom, at tho Dominion lintel in Hawera., usually occupied by another Deforce officer, and a companion of accused. Tho defonco was that the accused waS no party to tho operation. . The jury disagreed, ana a fresh trial was ordered.
