RETURNED SOLDIERS
CAPTAIN SIMSON BIDS FAREWELL At The last meeting of the Returned Soldiers' Association, the new constitution and rules were adopted. Mr. T. Neave was in attendance, and he explained the effect of the rules. A vote of thanks, was accorded to him for his valuable services to the association. Captain Donald Simson, who has been chairman of tho association since its foundation, made a speech on retiring from the ciiair. Ho referred to much of the useful work tho association had already been able to do for returned Boldiers, and outlined a scheme of activity for the future. To returned soldiers individually, he offered this advice—to keep directly in touch with tho association, and to refrain from too frequent criticism. -He thanked the committee and members for their loyalty to him. He had done his best for them. In that he considered that he had done only his duty, but it had also been a pleasure. 1 On the motion of Mr. J. D. Harper, the incoming chairman resolution was, carried with acclamation: "That tliis' general meeting plaoes on record its earnest appreciation, of the great work Captain Donald Simson has done for returned soldiers, not only in Wellington, but throughout New Zealand. His keen and unselfish interests aud untiring energy have laid the foundation of great and lasting benefits to returned men, and this meeting wishes him the best of luck wherever he may be." On the motion of Mr. Fox, Captain Simson was elected the first life member of the association.
