FOB WELLINGTON SOLDIERS AND THEItt FAMILIES ' s . The New Zealand Natives' Association has conceived the idea of erecting some • sort of club premises as a memorial for all time to those who have • fallen- at the front, and also to thoso from tho Wellington district who have served'their King and country in the prosent war. The idea has been simmering', for a. year' past, but action of a definite character' is now to' be taken, and'plans have been Prepared to cover a section of land adjacent to Courtcnay Place v Tho idea of tho Natives'. Association is to erect a building that will stand practically for all time, as a memorial to.Wellington's part in the war, and whoso doors will always be open to returned soldiers, their wives, and children; where incomplete register of all from the district will be kept, sh6wing how, when, and' whoro a man was siek, wounded, or died; a place to store valued'mementos of the war; where the heroes of the war will be enshrined as heroes, and where entertainments will be given from, time toj time to the returned men, their wives, and families; .and where the fine traditions established by. New Zealand, in 'this war. will bo preserved and cherished for all time.
It is understood thai a meeting of leading citizens is.to be held immediately to consider the launching of a campaign to . raise the money. Only £10,000 is needed, and the association officials arc confident that they, will be able .to get that amount. . "If we can only get 200,000 people to' 'buy a brick' at a shilling each, the thing will be done I" says tho secretary (Sir Chas. M'lntyro).
