MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Wellington City Council.was held last night There were present: The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), and ' Councillors J. E. Fitzgerald, W. T. Hildreth, R, A. Wright, M. F; Luckie, W. H. Bennett, L. M'Kenzio, W. J. Thompson. J. •Hutoheson, J. Godber, G. Frost, W. H. P. Barber, and A. R. Atkinson. •It was decided that the' application for the erection of steps leading from Adelaide Road to Duppa Street be con-, sidered when the estimates for the next financial year are being dealt with. The City Engineer was instructed to carry out tho work of maintaining the Hutt Road through tho current year in such a manner as not to incut a. greater cost than ■■ one-half of the estimated expenditure for this year, prepared by the council, and amounting to £5170; and also having regard to tho proposal, to construct:a concrete track along the centre of the road. It was decided also that tho council as tho constructing authority of the Hutt Road make tho necessary provision to finance the proposal to construct ,a concrete track along the centre of the Hutt Road as rocommenaeel By the City Engineer at an estimated cost u i £22,842. '
Tho following recommendation of the By-Law 'Committee was-adopted:— "That a by-law bo prepared to compel all applicants for the erection of stables to have tlio building sites approved by tho council in' the same manner that other buildings which might become objectionable (such as smoke-houses) arc now required to- be considered."
