ILLEGAL BETTING
BOOKMAKERS SEVERELY FINED

Auckland, August 23. For making illegal bets two bookmakers appeared in the Police Court to-day. The police stated that betting was on the increase in Auckland, and it was difficult to get at the "big men." One defendant was fined £75, and the other £50.
