THE CALL FOR MEN
INFANTRY SHORT. The present position of the Wellington Military District with regard to. the Twentieth Reinforcements, now mobilising, is that there is a shortage of 167 men. The group drafts reached Featherston Camp 145 men short, and twenty-two were rejected at the camp. The infantry shortages for the various groups were: No. 5 (Wellington City), 61; No. 6 (Manawatu), 43; No. 7 (Hawke's Bay), 3; No. 7a (Wairarapa;), 14; No. 8 (Taranaki), 18. No/5 Group had nine men rejected; No. 6, six; No. 7, two; No. 7a, one; and No. 8, four. Tho district shortages for the other arms were: Mounted Rifles, 8; Artillery, 1; Engineers, 2; A.S.C., 1; N.C.O.'s (22nd Infantry), ,4.
Twelve men were registered at Buckle Street yesterday, and ten of them were unfit. Tile two fit were: C. H. Clark, fireman, Thorndon, and K. L. Freeman, salesman, City. I E. Adnms (infantry) was sent to Feati'/erston Camp yesterday.
