Last year The Dominion published .Hi Appeal, at tho request of the British and Foreign Sailors'' Society, Wellington, for tinned fruits and vegetables _to he sent to the men on active service in tlio New Zealand battleships. Tho appeal was very well responded to by the Wellington and district public, the result being that quite a large consignment of cases of tinned fruit, etc., was sent, freight free, by the Defence Minister. These gifts arrived in good condition to the ships. An acknowledgment sent to the donors hero from Commander Captain. Hall-Thompson, H.M.S. Philomel, shows how very much the gifts were appreciated. The British and Foreign Sailors' Society, Wellington, again make tho request for similar gifts this year. _ Commander Hall-Thompson suggests in a letter: "If it wero possible to 6end very thin white clothing, singlets and shorts for the men, thev would bo very highly valued where they are." Also any quantity of tinned tongues, tinned vegetables, tinned fruits, and gramophone records. Tho Ladies' Guild of tho British and Foreign Sailors' Society. Wellington Branch, proposes shorpy to have a local flower sale to Taise the necessary funds required to purchase the white garments abovo referred' txv— about GOO suits in all. This salo will, no doubt attain its worthy object. Goods will be received by tho honorary secretary of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society, Mr. Hamilton Nimmo, 42 Kent Terrace, and will ho acknowledged from time to timo in .the local iiowspapers.
