DEAR AND VALIANT
FRENCH TRIBUTE TO THEIR ALLIES, THE ENGLISH Recently the New Zealand .Government informed the Governor of Oceania, through the British Consul at Tahiti, that 110 charge would be made for the accommodation of the French soldiers who paßsed through here en route' for the war. A letter lias now been received from M. Julien, Governor of the Trench settlement of Oceania, as follows:— "By letter of to-day's date (July 3, 1916) you have been so good as to advise me that His' Excellency tlio Governor of New Zealand has decided that the administration of this colony should not request the French Government to reimburse the cost of keeping the Taliitian soldiers who disembarked from the steamer Flora on the occasion or their sojourn in English territory. "Your letter adds that the Dominion Government has pleasure in rendering so slight a service to such valiant Allies. The French Consul at Auckland had already informed me of this generous intention, and with him I shall not fail to inform the Government of the Republic how much the colonv of which I am the head, aiid the whole of Franco, are grateful to our noble and glorious Allies for the generosity of which we are receiving such touching proofs. - "I have the honour, sir, to beg you to convey to His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand the sentiments of high esteem and sincere admiration which I and all good Frenchmen feci at this moment for our dear and valiant Allies the English."
