A poll on the proposal to raise a drainago extension loan and other minor loans, is to he taken in Masterton on August 31. The Mastcrton Amateur Theatrical Society has decided to produce "H.M.S. Pinafore" at an early date. Five slot telephone machines are shortly to be installed in Mastcrton. • A match for the Pragnell Shield, between the Masterton and Carterton Miniaturo Rifle Clubs, was won by the ' former by ten points. The Mastcrton County Council has set up a committee to go thoroughly into the. question of procuring road machinery. ' It is estimated that the cost of this machinery will be £3000. Tho -Wairarapa Patriotic Association has sent £750 to the Wellington representative of the St. Jolui Ambulance Society for the purchase of an ambulance to bo used at tho front. The Masterton County Council lias decided against tho erection of a tollgate on the Mastcrton-Castlepoint Boad in the meantime, but lias resolved to approach tho Castlepoint County Council, requesting it to increase its contribution towards tho ii]>kecp of the road, or, in tho alternative, to permit the establishment of a toll-gate.
