The undoubted success achieved by Mi.'s Elsy Treweek as Marguerite in "I'aust" on Tuesday last at tho Town Hall, should always ensure for her a warm welcome in Wellington, She left for Sydney, on route to Melbourne] on Thursday last. It is a pity that when.an artist such as Miss Treweek is brought such a dis, tanco that different choral societies in New Zealand could not arrange to engage her services. Never in the history of Now Zealand has tha country been so poorly off for good, reliable singers, both male and fem'ale, and when a . society is put to the expense of bringing over a thoroughly trustworthy artist such as ourrecent visitor, .there would be wisdom on all sides if a number instead of one performance only could be given. It would lighten tho expense to the individual society, and would add to the emolument of the aTtist. The old Royal Choral Society has been enterprising in securing sova «f the best talent heard in oratorio in Wellington, and it is. not to be doubted; that the new union will be at all lacking in that .respect Personally, 1 <Io not see why there should, be a federation of musical. societies in New Zealand so far as affects the securing of artists, and the interchange of music, is concerned.. . •
