PRINCIPAL PRIZE-WINNERS

ilia thirty-fourth annual show of the Wollington Poultry. Pigeon, and. Canary Society was opened by the Mayor, Air. J. P. Luke, yesterday afternoon. Mr. Jjuko said the entries spoke well for the members of the society, who had worked to make the society what it was. He said that at present the Government was receiving a largo number of applications by returned soldiers for land, on which to make a home, and ho believed that a large number of the soldiers would have a lot to do with the question of prize birds, and so further the interests of the Wellington Society, which would in years to come bo recognised as a centre. He congratulated the peoplo who had) entries on the fino exhibits they had in the show, and concluded by declaring the show officially opened, and, wishing it every success. The principal . prizewinners are as under:— Cats. The programme of the show has been slightly altered this time, and the oats were shown yesterday, the first day of the show, instead of the last. Titers were 91 entries in. the cats' division, and all were well above last year's ex* hibit. Many exhibitors, however, enter cats in thq wrong class, causing 'thejn to .be disqualified. . Mrs. Peterson was appointed stewardess, and greatly assisted novices to enter in the right class. Mr. Langridgo judged the cats, and tho'first prizes wore as follow:— • Chinchilla.—Mrs. Bushby, 2 lirsis, and Messrs. E. Cook, B. Kelly, L, M'Mullan, Mesdanws Burch, A. Pattersson, A. Poultry. • The fancy poultry, on the whole;- compared very , favourably with last year. Alodern ganio -vvero .well represented and still keep, their popularity. Old English game were a' very poor class.' Black Jlinorcau, Brown Leghorns, Golden Pencil and Silver Spangled flam burgs, Gold and Silver Wyandottes, - Buff Orpingtons, White Orpingtons, Bantams, and- -Japanese Bantams 'were', 'all represented strongly, and were very good classes' ol birda.
