HOUSING SCHEME
BY TBE WELLINGTON MiiNICIPALITY. At the last meeting of the City Council Councillor Eildreth gave notice to move tho following motion:—"That this council take into consideration the question of acquiring land at Lyall Bay for tile purpose of building cottages for tramway employees." Sow Councillor Hutcheson desires to go muoh further. He has given notice to move an amendment striking out till the words after "land" in Councillor Uildreth's motion, and providing for the •substitution of the following"la suburban areas for the purpose of providing housing accommodation for such of tho corporation permanent employees as may be desirous of taking advantage of this schomo, and that a seieot committee, -consisting of the Mayor, Councillors Hil'dreth, Bennett, Frost, Wright, and Hie mover, be set up to inquire iuto and report on tho following- matters"l. Location, area, and estimated value of suitable available sites. 2. Size and structural description and design of buildings. 3. Estimated cost of different types of suitable buildings. 4. (a) Method of allocations: of dwellings to any. applicant; (b) order of eligibility of applicants. 5. Description of tenure. G. Financial firrangements to give effect to the scheme."
It will be seen that, if this amendment is carried, the whole question will be very fully considered.
