LIVE STOCK SALES

Messrs. Dalgety. and Company, Limited, report having a good entry o£ sheep and cattlo at their Palmerston North sale on Thursday. The demand was not particularly keen for sheep, but tho majority of the cattle changed hands. Quotations: Sheep-Mixed lambs, 19s. 3d.; low-condition-ed ewes in lamb, 215.; mixed-age ewes in lamb, 245. to 265. Cattle-Empty cows, £4 15s. 6d. to '£7; heifers, at drop. £3 17s. 6d., £9; weaner bulls, £2 to £2 19s. 6d. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, DannevTrke,, report on their i-ale held on Friday as follows:—Wo only offered in sheep two pens of fat ewes, which failed to reach the owner's reserve (the recent wet weather being responsible for our small entry. In cattle, we sold a small yarding, which realised the following prices:—Two and a half-year steers,' £9 17s. 6d.; small Jersey heifers and calf, £5 to £5 Is.; small Jersey heifers and calf, at drop, £10. The New Zealand- Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report:--At Fcilding, on Friday, we had a moderate cnlry. and sold all lines at full rates. Turnbull and Co., Ltd.). report having held their weekly sale in their Carterton sale yards, when they offered a good yarding of sheep., and a small entry of pigs and cattle. Mr. Newton King reports:—On June 22, at Rohotu, for Mr. H. N. Chapman's clearing tale of his Kahui Road herd, the cows were in good condition, but a good many wei'e aged and rather late culvers, these reducing the average somewhat, but nevertheless ' a satisfactory average of about £9 was'm-ade. On the same day- at Waitara Road, for Mr. C. J. Herrick's sale, competition throughout was very keen, everything selling well. ' The best price ' for cows was. £16 Nte., the herd averaging £10 12s. At Urenui. on June 28, there was a good entry witli a keen inquiry. Prices obtained were:—Yearling steers, £3 10s. to £3 155.; yearling heifers, £2 ss. 6d. to £3; twenty-month steers. £5 13s. 6d. to £7; store cows, £5 12s. 6d. to £7; forward and fat cows, £8 2s. to £11 55.; in-calf heifers. £6 17s. 6d. to £7 95.; dairy cows, £8; springing heifers. £5 7s. 6d. to £6 10s.; three-year bullocks, £10 25.; empty twenty-month heifers, £4 Is. to £4 10s.; Bmall lambs. 155.; aged ewes in lamb, 17s. 6d. to £1 On the same day at Midhirst, for Mr. G. 11. Smith's clearing sale, bidding for the dairy cows (a good line) was vcrv keen, the herd averaging £12 10s., the best price being £18 10s.; heifers in calf made £6 ss. to £7; wcaner heifers. £3 6s. 6d.; small steers, £3 2s. 6d.; Midhirst Faotorv shares, 165.; farm horses. £14 10s. to £25 &.; dray, £16; gig. £16 10s. At, Stony Eivcr a good number of yearling steers were offered the top prices for these ranging from £3 14s. to £4 ss. Other prices were:—Small steers. £3; yearling heifers, £2 12s. to £3; empty twentymonth heifers, £3 17s. 6d. to £4 35.; twontyinonth steers, £6 14s. to £7 65.; store cows, £4 17s. 6d. to £7 76.; forward and fat cows, £8 2s. 6(1. to £11 155.; empty forward heifers,-£7 10s. to £8 145.; Shorthorn yearling bull, £5 10s.; springing heifers, £5 10s. to £8 10s.; dairy cows, £5 ss. to £10 10s.; in-calf three-year heifers, £8 ss. At h'aimata, for Mr.T. Bust's clearing sale, the herd of-cows were in fair condition, a few of the line being a little aged, but a good average of £9 95., was, obtained. I'earling heifers made £3 55.; breeding sows, £5 53. On Juno 28, at Inglewood, for tic weekly-cattle sale, competition for all lines, with the exception of in-calf heifers was very keen, excellent prices being realised. A rough pen of twentymonth, steers made £7 65.; and a nice line of Shorthorn twenty-month empty hcifere, £4 17s. 6d. On the same day at Midhirst. at Itr O. Fowler's clearing sale, the cows wero good, and sold veu readily up to £18 10s., averaging £13 10s.; in-calf heifers made £5 15s. to £9: Brenner heifers, £3 75.; farm horses, £22 to £27.
