SUNDAY GOLF
PLAYERS TO BE PROSECUTED. At last evening's meeting of tho City Council the.Reserves Committee roportcd as follows:~ "That they have been waited on by a deputation consisting of Dr. R. A. Cameron and others, requesting the committee to allow golf to be played on- tho Municipal Links on Sundays, and. they have also received a letter from the Presbyterian Orphanage Committee complaining that golf is still being played on Sundays. Tho committee havo to report that they have given instructions to havo tho pavilion closed on Sundays, and a copy of the by-law affixed, ou a prominent part of tho building." Councillor Frost', chairman of tho com-, nvitteo, said that.there were many peqplo who thought that golf was merely a healthy recreation, and as a gamo for Sunday was not to bo classed with certain other games; Tho links was a publio ground, and if peoplo liked to knock a ball about thoro lie did not know whether they'could be prevented. Councillor A. R. Atkinson said if that wero so why did he move tho report—it was a farce. The Mayor said that ho would move, if the chairman of the committee would not like to, that players on Sunday be prosecuted. Councillor Frost said that he would rathor that the Mayor took that responsibility. Tho Mayor then moved that tho officers of the council be instructed to taico action if any breach of tho by-laws is committed. This was agreed, and tho Teport was also agreed to.
